For more than 30 years, Gypsy Rose’s motto and mission statement has been: “Weaving Peace Throughout the World”. We are inspired to Be Kind, to respect the environment, to honor people’s cultures and beliefs and to help keep this incredible scene of peace and love alive. We at Gypsy Rose are dedicated to doing business responsibly in the world and to help make it a better place in which to live any way we can.

Gypsy Rose is many things but at its heart it is a bridge that connects people all over the world, including the USA, by supporting cottage industries, small family businesses, traditional artisans and fair wages for workers. Thousands of people benefit from jobs producing and selling our products. And supporting these small businesses helps to keep the traditional artisan practices alive and appreciated worldwide. We consider ourselves very fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many incredible people across the globe. We have forged strong friendships and business relationships with people in Nepal, Thailand, and Guatemala, and are happy to share success in business with each of them. We are so thankful that, in a world that continues to feel smaller, our Gypsy Rose community includes people of all backgrounds and religions working together to Coexist.

It is no secret that we are very environmentally conscious as well. This can be seen in many of the ways we do business. From designing gear made from recycled corduroy, tweed, and velvet, to printing our catalog on recycled paper with soy-based inks, to using eco-friendly office supplies, we stand true to our beliefs of caring for this planet. We are huge advocates of utilizing the versatile hemp plant, and of organic farming of food & fibers. We are passionate about supporting any method of sustainable living while caring for our planet.

Throughout the 30 years of being in business Gypsy Rose has also been fortunate enough to be able to lend assistance to people and communities in need of some extra help. We have collected and donated to disaster relief efforts here at home as well as thousands of miles away. In 2004 an unthinkable tsunami struck Southeast Asia. Proprietor John from Gypsy Rose was able to make a physical presence in South India personally meeting many displaced families and purchasing supplies and fishing nets directly for them. In 2005 he traveled to the village of Panabaj Guatemala that had been devastated by a mudslide due to hurricane Stan. He personally collected and donated water purification systems for displaced survivors. In 2012 Gypsy Rose joined forces with our local community and donated a pick up truck load of blankets, warm clothes, hats, gloves, and rain gear for those affected by the unbelievably destructive Hurricane Sandy. The goods were consolidated into a moving truck along with other donations and then driven to Sandy Hook, NJ to be directly handed out to people.  A major disaster does not need to happen for Gypsy Rose to look for a reason to help. Through the years we have donated to countless domestic organizations and people. For many years John and his family have driven to our local city of Philadelphia during the winter months and handed out warm clothing and blankets to those living outside. It is not just about the personal experience of handing something warm directly to someone who needs it. We also value sharing a moment of mutual respect for human contact and love and wish to spread this & inspire others to do the same.

We view the world as a community, and are happy to show our help and support to our friends and family in all nations as often as we can. These past 25 years of weaving peace throughout the world has brought us much joy and taught us many great lessons. During this time we made connections to our friends and vendors in other nations as well as to you, our customers. Through it all we all are aware of what great things humans can achieve when we come together to help one another. Working as one, we can weave a brilliant tapestry of peace, love, respect, compassion, music, dancing, laughter, and joy.

Tsunami Relief

Every year Gypsy Rose is fortunate to travel to Southeast Asia for business. Although our trips are full of wonderful adventures and magnificent sites, nothing could have prepared us for what was to happen this past February. This past February we were in India finishing their work and had plans to travel to Nepal next. With only 2 days before leaving for Nepal we received the incredible news that King Gyanendra of Nepal had overthrown the democratic government because of corrupt officials. The King closed all airports, shut down News Service, telephone, and Internet communications. No communication at all, our only option was to send a pigeon with a letter attached. Nepal was closed, and we were left stranded!!!
